Omet and Ritrama have announced a partnership at Labelexpo Americas 2018, which will provide new conversion equipment for Ritrama's Coreless solution.

The coreless lining solution (CLS) uses a siliconized 12-micron PET lining laminated on the back of a 30-micron surface material.

The processor just prints the roll in the normal way, and since there is no die cutting, the operating speed of the printing press can be greatly increased. Omet's processing machines layer the multifunctional liner and laminate it to the top of the label using an activatable adhesive. This leaves the adhesive side of the facestock exposed and encapsulates the print, while the silicone surface remains on the top surface. The 42-micron roll passes through the micro-perforation station and the slitter inspection rewinder.

The Coreless solution requires a professional application machine manufactured by the Italian company Ilti. The labeling machine separates the micropores and sticks the label to the container at the same speed as the PSA labeling machine. There is no wastage of gaskets, and the number of labels per roll is three times that of PSA rolls, which means fewer labelling machine rolls are replaced.

Although only square/rectangular labels are possible, labels with rounded corners can be die-cut. Omet pointed out that label design can still "simulate" die-cut labels on transparent materials.

The main target market is the decoration of primary products. Among them, Ritrama estimates that 80% of the face labels are square, and more than 90% of the back labels are square or rectangular.

At the press conference of Labelexpo Americas, Omet also explained in more depth the reasons behind its alliance with Durst, which saw Omet combine the Tau 330 RSC printing engine with the XFlex X6 flexographic printing press module.
